Printer Allocating your Life?
Wednesday October 1st Bill Junor met with the student senate in order to discuss the print management system implemented this year on all the public computers and labs. At the senate meeting he discussed the current printer usage to date by the students. In his statistics we saw that out of 5000 students:
•Over 1,500 people have used less than $1.00 of printing (less than 20 pages)
•Only 75 people have printed between $10 – $19 (200-399 pages)
•Only 14 people have printed between $20 – $29 (400-599 pages)
•Only 5 people have printed between $30 – $49 (600-999 pages)
•Only 1 person has printed between $50 – $69 (1,000-1,399 pages)
•Only 1 person has printed between $70 – $79 (1,399-1,599 pages)
•Only 1 person has printed between $80 – 89 (1,600-1,800 pages)
At the meeting a recommendation of 400 pages per semester per student was suggested. Many of the Senators found this number to be too low and debate between Junor and the Senate ensued. It was then decided to table the debate and form a ad-hoc committee to discuss CTS and printer allocation further.
ARRRR PURCHASE PIRATES
In the first six weeks of classes the college has received 30 Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) Infringement Reports, said Bill Junior the Director of Computer and Information Services. The 30 cases of internet piracy have led to seven judicial summons. To compare, Junor said we received 111 infringement reports last year and 31 the year before.
Anything written on paper, transmitted via email, recorded music or software written is subject to copyright protections. According to a campus wide e-mail, the College is obligated to remove or disable the allegedly pirated material and notify the subscriber. While copyright infringement is against Federal Law, Junor said that no Purchase students will face outside prosecution.
